What is the 477 Broadband Data? Where does it come from?
Twice a year the FCC requires that all broadband providers submit the 477 form that indicates which census blocks they service. We’ve added information from 2,244 different holding companies.
Who Files What?
All facilities-based broadband providers are required to file data with the FCC twice a year (Form 477) on where they offer Internet access service at speeds exceeding 200 kbps in at least one direction.
Fixed providers file lists of census blocks in which they can or do offer service to at least one location, with additional information about the service.

Now when you enter an address in the search bar, the popup bubble will contain an orange rectangle titled: “Get FCC 477 Data”.
When you click on that rectangle, it outlines the polygon of the census block on the map and…
FCC Broadband Data panel opens on the “My Workspace” panel.
If you choose the dropdown, each provider/technology will appear, you can choose any one from the list.
There you will be able to see the additional details including the DBA, Holding Company (if applicable), Technology, Tech Code, Max Down and Up speeds and whether the market is business, consumer or both. You will also see the Location and Census Block.
Alternatively, you can click on the orange “Compare All” button as seen below.
This will open a popup window that shows the provider, technology, max up and down and the market served for each. You also see the Location and Census Block.
There is also a link on this popup for an explanation of the technologies and codes. Clicking on that takes you to the following…

Note: A provider that reports deployment of a particular technology and bandwidth in a census block may not necessarily offer that service everywhere in the block. Accordingly, a list of providers deployed in a census block does not necessarily reflect the number of choices available to any particular household or business location in that block, and the number of such providers in the census block not purport to measure competition.
